Cat Quotes Abraham Lincoln

No matter how much cats fight, there always seem to be plenty of kittens – Abraham Lincoln

I so love doing these blog posts because I learn new things all the time.  I just learned that Abraham Lincoln LOVED cats. And it is written about in many places on the web.  I quote:

From National Park Service blog post

Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth President, loved cats and could play with them for hours. When asked if her husband had a hobby, Mary Todd Lincoln replied, “cats.” President Lincoln visited General Grant at City Point, Virginia in March of 1865. The civil war was drawing to a close and the enormous task of reuniting the country lay ahead, yet the President made time to care for three orphaned kittens. Abraham Lincoln noticed three stray kittens in the telegraph hut. Picking them up and placing them in his lap, he asked about their mother. When the President learned that the kittens’ mother was dead, he made sure the kittens would be fed and a good home found for them.

From post on Constitution Daily:

Lincoln was obsessed with cats. As an adult, Lincoln would have probably preferred to be the head of the SPCA, if it had existed back them. The president loved all animals, and was especially obsessed with cats. The official White House cat was named Tabby.

From a Today I Found Out post:

He was crazy about cats. Recalled one friend, “He would take one and turn it on its back and talk to it for an hour at a time.”  Because of this love of cats, Secretary of State William Seward presented President Lincoln with two kittens as a gift early in his administration in August of 1861.
